Oh, I totally get where you’re coming from! I've used ChatGPT for poems and short stories too. The poems can be pretty impressive, sometimes it nails the rhythm and imagery in a way that surprises me. But yeah, I have to agree with you on the short stories. They can feel a bit... directionless? Like, there's a beginning, but the middle and end just kind of float along without much happening.
I think it does well with the technical part of creative writing, like descriptions and dialogue but struggles to create a real plot that pulls you in. Maybe it’s missing that human touch, you know, the ability to understand what makes a story truly engaging. I think the much clear and better prompt you give, the better results you can get from ChatGPt for short stories. Even with coding its great, now a days I am using it for coding and learing so much from ChatGPT, the more we improve our commands and prompts, the better it gets.
That said, I still find it fun to use as a starting point. Sometimes I let it throw out an idea, and then I reshape it to give it more depth. But yeah, for now, it’s more of a brainstorming buddy than an author.
Curious to hear if anyone else has found a way to get better stories out of it?
